As the member organization for the entire AHEC network, NAO is uniquely positioned to cultivate partnerships with national organizations and AHECs on mutually beneficial projects in the following service areas. NAO often subcontracts with strategically identified AHECs to fulfill the project goals of a national partner when the projects aligns with the AHEC mission. Workforce development – Cultivate audiences and support content development for health care professional continuing education. Outreach and promotion – Conduct virtual, hybrid or in-person outreach through trusted networks to priority populations based on geographic, demographics, professional affiliation, etc. Technical assistance – Provide targeted support for organizations and projects through the provision of focused technical assistance services. Data collection – Facilitate quantitative or qualitative data to advance understanding of evolving trends, innovative practices, challenges and opportunities. Scaling what works – If an innovative project works, NAO can leverage the AHEC network to adapt and replicate projects to expand to other parts of the country.
Project Examples![]() Workforce Pathways for Youth: P.A.V.E.NAO secured a $2 million three-year grant from the Department of Labor to enhance and expand health career exploration programs, postsecondary education/training, and health profession workforce development opportunities for youth ages 14 to 21. NAO is partnering with seven AHECs serving rural and/or underserved regions to engage youth in out-of-school pathway programming. Programs will include the use of virtual reality technology. Learn MoreEducating Health Care Providers About Pain ManagementNAO and eight partnering AHECs are supporting Pri-Med’s P.A.C.T: Practical Approaches to Comprehensive Treatment of Pain virtual CME program intended for physicians and other healthcare professionals engaged in prescribing and/or treating patients with opioid analgesics. Participants can receive 4 hours CME/CE credit for completing this self-paced course. ADEA seeks to bring awareness and resources to AHECs to support them in inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals to consider careers in oral health. Learn More![]() Increasing awareness of the signs and symptoms of lupusLupus can be challenging to diagnose because it can affect any part of the body and its symptoms mimic those of many other illnesses. As a result, it can often take years to diagnosis. NAO has partnered with the Lupus Foundation of America to help spread the word about the signs and symptoms of lupus, along with many other lupus related resources.
