There will be a short documentary screening, Laboring with Hope, followed a discussion with Nakeitra Burse, PhD. Dr Burse’s documentary will bring awareness of the maternal mortality issue in the US, including the policy changes and training needed to address this public health issue. Maternal mortality is a concerning public health problem in the US. About 700 women die every year due to pregnancy-related complications. Health care providers play a critical role in eliminating preventable maternal mortality. After the film discussion, maternal health leaders and advocates from North Carolina will lead attendees in a panel discussion to learn about NC maternal mortality data and state efforts to reduce maternal deaths.
